Freight Homes

City Design plans to expand into the freight homes arena in 2010. Due to the success of our Mini-MODs, we have been searching for other ways to meet consumer demand for affordable, energy efficient, minimal square footage homes and bonus structures.

Freight homes take unused or abandoned freight containers and turn them into innovative, customized residences. One or more standard size freight containers are first cleaned, customized, and positioned in a client-selected layout before multi-skin acrylic sheets and pre-fabricated roofs are added to complete the structure. Reusing freight containers provides clients not only with a durable and easily transportable home (they fit as is on trains, ships, and even cargo planes), but also keeps the containers from taking up space in landfills or other disposal facilities.

In the future, City Design hopes to help find affordable ways to mass-produce these freight homes so that they can be made available to people of all income levels in the U.S. and abroad.
